Digital Dental Photography

Communicating with photography and digital imagery has the potential to completely transform the dental practice. Therefore it is necessary that dentists develop the skills to take full opportunity of the digital age.

This three-day course focuses on the basic digital principles and builds the foundation for excelling in the digital world. Starting with the camera, you will learn the appropriate equipment and how to set up for capturing images. Next, utilize consumer software to prepare the images for case presentation. While examining the hardware and software in this course, the main focus will be user skills and complete understanding. Digital technology is completely principle based and the promise is that anyone who acquires a complete understanding of the basics will find great success.

The objectives of this course are for the participant to be able to:

  • Understand the use of SLR cameras and determine which system best fits your practice type
  • Gain expertise in the use of patient digital photography, which includes up-close, or Macro Photography and Portrait Photography
  • Utilize the details in dental macro photography; which includes retractors, intra-oral mirrors, and the doctor/patient positions for ease and simplicity
  • Implement the use of the digital Histogram, the single most important principle in digital photography
  • Correct the two problems captured JPG images exhibit, with Adobe Photoshop CS3 (These two corrections are simple, easy to understand and result in superb image quality that is a complete paradigm shift)
  • Understand the dental uses of Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Microsoft PowerPoint 2007, including the quick creation of educational PowerPoints for your patients that includes photographs, x-rays, implants, and digital video clips
